A meeting dedicated to the development of community-based winemaking traditions and enotourism opportunities was held with the participation of leading experts from the "Slow Wine" movement, local winemakers, and representatives of the wine industry.
The discussions focused on opportunities for cooperation to promote Azerbaijan’s viticultural heritage on international platforms. The participants also exchanged ideas and experiences on transparent, sustainable, and community-based wine production with local producers.
A delegation of Italian experts visited wineries operating in Ismayilli, Gabala, Aghsu, and Shamakhi.
They got acquainted with the natural conditions supporting local wine production, as well as traditional cultivation and production methods.
It should be noted that as a part of the "Slow Food" movement, "Slow Wine" promotes the preservation of traditions based on the unique characteristics of grape varieties in each wine-growing region. The movement supports cultural and biological diversity, environmentally responsible practices, sustainable production, and agroecological methods.
Taking into account the presence of internationally recognized local grape varieties and wines, the State Tourism Agency is actively promoting wine tourism on a global scale. The revival and touristic use of ancient winemaking traditions along the western, northern, and northwestern tourism routes of the country are among the key directions of development.
